Born in Augsburg, bass-baritone Micha Matthäus is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Concert Singing with Prof. Lars Woldt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. As a sought-after concert singer, he performs both nationally and internationally. In the 2025/26 season, he will appear in prestigious venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, and the Isarphilharmonie München.
He will also perform Bachs Weihnachtsoratorium with the orchestra Il Gardellino under the direction of Christoph Prégardien and will make his debut at the Europäischen Wochen Passau in 2026. On the opera stage, he appears as Simon in Schubert’s scenic oratorio Lazarus at the Theaterakademie August Everding. In 2025, he performed Leporello in Mozarts Don Giovanni at the Musiktheater im Reaktor (München). Previous roles include Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro, Hochschule für Musik und Theater München) and Betto (Gianni Schicchi). He participated in Händels Semele with the ensemble LauschWerk at the Bayerische Staatsoper and in Du Yuns Angel’s Bone at the Staatstheater Augsburg.
As a concert soloist, he has developed a close collaboration with Johanna Soller, under whose direction he performed Pilatus in Bachs Johannes-Passion and the Evangelist in Hugo Distlers Weihnachtsgeschichte. In 2024, he gave a concert tour to Salvador, Brazil, performing Verdi’s Requiem.
Micha Matthäus has worked with conductors such as Claudio Vandelli and Ariel Zuckermann and received artistic guidance from renowned singers including Ian Bostridge and Werner Güra. He completed his Bachelor’s degree with KS Andreas Schmidt and continued his training with Hartmut Elbert.
He is a recipient of the Deutschlandstipendium, Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now, and was awarded the Richard-Wagner-Stipendium. From 2018 to 2020, he was a member of the Bayerischen Singakademie.
