ABOUT
The bass-baritone Micha Matthäus was born in Augsburg, Germany. Beginning in 2020, he studies singing in the Bachelor of Arts program under Professor Andreas Schmidt at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, Germany.
In 2023, he appeared in the performance of „Angel’s Bone“ (Du Yun) at the Staatstheater Augsburg. As part of the vocal ensemble LauschWerk, he contributed to a new production of G. F. Händel’s „Semele“ at the Bayerische Staatsoper. At the Reaktorhalle of the University of Music an Performing Arts, Micha sang the role of Betto in G. Puccini’s „Gianni Schicchi“.
In the upcoming season, he will make his debut as Figaro in W.A. Mozart’s „Le Nozze die Figaro“ in a production of the University of Music an Performing Arts. He will also travl on a concert tour to Salvador, Brazil, to sind G. Verdi’s Requiem under Professor Martin Steidler.
His special passion is for concert and oratorio literature. In addition to more commonly performed works by J.S. Bach, J. Haydn, and W.A. Mozart, his repertoire also includes rarely heard oratorios such as G.F. Händel’s „Saul“, „Jephta“, and „Israel in Egypt“. He is working closely with Johanna Soller and under her, he sang Pilate in J.S. Bach’s „St. John Passion“ as well as the evangelist in H. Distler’s „Christmas Story“
Until 2020, he studied at the Bayerische Singakademie with Hartmut Elbert as instructor. He hast been awarded ongoing funding by the Deutschland Stipendium in 2021 He also received fellowship by the Richard Wagner Society Munich and in 2023, by Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now.
